So when you ask why #childishmarriage exists in the #US and you ask why no country in the world has achieved #genderequality therein lies the problem, that is discrimination on the basis of gender which places women and girls on equal footing throught the failure to eliminate harmful practices such an early, force & #childmarriage

Whether we choose to accept it or not women are still not treated equally in all aspects of society. The late Justice Ginsburg said it best:

"Sex like race has been made the basis for unjustified or at least unproved assumptions concerning an individual's potential to perform or to contribute to society. "

Isn't this why we are fighting for equal pay for equal work. You may argue we are home to the #metoo & #timesup movement right?

While we have made significant progress in some areas in empowering survivors to speak out and bring about real, meaningful change, we are leaving others behind. We cannot turn a blind eye to the survivors of #childmarriage who have been subjected to lifelong devastating consequences.

UNICEF calls marriage below age 18 a violation of the rights of the child and believes that marriage below age 18 should be prohibited in all circumstances. The US State Department as well as the United Nations calls child marriage a human rights violation.
