Child marriage is unacceptable as it causes a lot of negative effects on various parties. First and for most, child marriage violates children’s rights, such as rights to get a quality education, healthcare, protection and deserving love. When a child is forced into marriage there are high possibilities that the victim will not ever get the opportunity of getting the education he or she deserves, or in other words, child marriage undermines one’s education. In addition to that, when children are involved in marriages, there is no guarantee that the children will be protected under any circumstances. Child marriage promotes child abuse. Violence can be projected on the innocent children at any time. This is because, a child is smaller in size and weaker in the sense of strength when compared to an adult, therefore, the safety of a married child is always at stake. Moreover, children have the rights to get a top notch healthcare. But, in the cases of child marriages, healthcare was never the matter that was given importance to, because if it was so, there would never be a child marriage at the first place. Last but not least, children have the rights to get enough love and not to be pushed into a black hole called child marriage where affection will never be reflected in a healthy and positive way on the victims. Being a child who has the accessibilities to every right one deserve is the real definition of respect a child. Therefore, violating children’s rights in the form of child marriages not only threatens the foundation of a law but also destroys the lives of the children involved.

Child marriage affects a child physically. Children’s bodies are premature, and are also at the verge of undergoing maturation. So, it can be said that a child is absolutely unprepared for sexual intercourses. But the lust of men does not stop them from raping a child or having sexual intercourses with a child even though they are aware of the consequences the victim has to face in the future. How ridiculous! Adolescent pregnancy are one of the main problem a child has to face after being dragged into a marriage that they were not prepared for. Adolescent pregnancies can be very challenging as the victims are not fully educated of maternal responsibilities or also of any sort of knowledge regarding pregnancy care. What do you expect? They are children and not grown up women who have faced numerous challenges in life. A child that is pregnant is liable of having complications during child birth because her body could be unable to withstand pain during labor. Children are also believed to have higher exposure to sexually transmitted infections (HIV) and also face frequent pregnancy as they are not adult enough to be educated of the protections needed for sex.

Finally, child marriage also can affect children’s mental health severely. This is because when a child is married young, in most cases, unwillingly, they tend to undergo emotional breakdowns at such young ages. Children are supposed to be enjoying every bits of their freedom and not be emotionally trapped in such situations where they will eventually develop psychological problems. Depression and anxiety are the most common aftermath of an unpleasant child marriage. Depression can eventually drive the child into having suicidal ideations and attempts. This is not a light subject that can be turned a blind eye on, because children are the future leaders, therefore, what else is more important than saving their sanity? Besides that, child marriage victims tend to shut themselves up from the society due to the embarrassment and also the regret of not being able to carve their own future with their bare hands, instead, the freedom was snatched away and they are trapped in a hell called marriage. This situation can also promote the development of anti-social personality disorder. On top of that, child marriage also affects the victims’ mental state of mind by fostering phobias which they can never get over with, such as androphobia (fear of men), gynophobia (fear of women), genophobia (fear of sexual intimacy) and more. Hence, child marriage is capable of disabling a child’s normal rate of emotional development which at the end of the day could cost the life of the child himself or herself.
