TECMN | Early marriage in Tanzania affects girls as much as infants

Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN

Early marriages in Tanzania have a greater impact on girls since on average many women get married earlier than 5-year-olds compared to men. TECMN has seen the need to make a joint statement commending the Tanzanian Court of Appeal for its decision to overturn sections 13 and 17 of the existing marriage law. 5 of 1971 (Chapter 29).

“Journalists are a major catalyst for the amendment of the Marriage Act, Articles 13 and 17, so they should make a concerted effort to remind the Government of the protection and well-being of the Tanzanian girl.” Speak in Tanzania
