Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
An appeal of the 1971 anti-marriage lawsuit, filed by the founding of the Girl Initiative's institutional director Rebecca Gyumi, Girl Initiative July 24 is set to be heard in the Court of Appeal of Tanzania.
In the case in which the Government appealed after the prosecution won, Attorney General Mark Mlwambo, said the marriage law of 1971, had no effect on the girl child and should continue to apply.
Speaking before a panel of three judges of the Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Augustine Godja, prosecuting attorney Jebra Kambole, said the Act was harsh, degrading and inciting sexual violence.
