Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
In June 25-27, Girls Not Brides brought together the world's leading advocates to end child marriage for an inspiring three day event in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.
Tanzania was well represented in the Global Meeting on #EndingChildMarriage by TECMN. #TZ team was led by TECMN chairperson Mama Valerie Msoka who was also on the International Planning Team for the Girls Not Brides Global Meeting 2018. TECMN. TECMN shared the collective advocacy efforts done within the country as #SAUTIMOJA in addressing the problem of child marriage including discriminatory Law of Marriage Act 1971. Agenda 2063, the African Union’s 50-year action plan for development, recognizes that child marriage is a major impediment to regional development and prosperity. Countries lose out on potentially enormous social, economic, and political contributions these girls could make if given the right opportunities from the start. #TECMN with 49 members organisation has been crucial to ending child marriage as members are working directly with girls, community, media, traditional and religious leaders as well as policy and law makers.
We’ve been inspired by the work already being carried out by various actors globally. We know a lot remains to be done and each of us here is doing great work to #EndChildMarriage.
