End Child Marriage Malaysia
It may be surprising to some that child marriage still occurs in Malaysia because these things are usually done on the down low. If the case of the 11 year old marrying the 41 year old man did not blow up last year, many would still have been in the dark. Why are we not aware?
Because there is a general lack of transparency of governance. As concerned Malaysians we have a right to this information. The government just “commits” to end child marriage in Malaysia without context or any palpable steps given. Besides that, data on child marriage is extremely difficult to obtain which makes it even more difficult to end this appalling act.
We need a huge shift in transparency of governance where child marriage is concerned and we need it fast.
