Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
Gender roles make men & women behave and present themselves as expected by the society. Example; in society men do not perform certain task; as it is considered to be a women’s job. According to Peer research conducted by CDF & FORWARD UK, traditional women and girls are responsible for collecting firewood.
“Normally it’s the work of women and no Kurya man can ever collect firewood. I think it is normal for women to collect firewood as they are the ones who are cooking and thus they should collect firewood. It is not normal for men to collect firewood if they do others will call him dense”.
The above statement shows that women and girls have man responsibilities in the community which are very hard to deal with for a newly wed girl child.
