Girls Not Brides for End Child Marriage
“For me, when a girl is married when she’s still a child, it’s just not fair because her life is taken away from her and her childhood is stolen from her. Being that young, she doesn’t even know the meaning of marriage.”
17-year-old Layla understands how a girl’s childhood can be destroyed by marriage. She attends Project Soar's empowerment sessions where she has learnt about child marriage and early motherhood. ????
Now she has advice for other girls: “I think that it’s important to know that we have rights and that there are people standing behind us. I think that girls should keep in mind that there are laws that ban child marriage and that protect us, there are also organisations that aim to help girls who are struggling and facing this problem.”
