Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
On the 4th of February 2018, TECMN conducted an advocacy meeting with Parliamentary Women Caucus of the United Republic of Tanzania regarding role in championing for the amendment of the Section 13 and 17 of the Law of Marriage Act of 1971 as part of efforts to end child marriage in Tanzania
The objectives of the meeting was to;
• Bring into attention on the persisting problem of child marriage (its drivers and consequences)
• Solicit for cooperation and support from the parliamentary Women Caucus to champion amendment of Section 13 and 17 of the Law of Marriage Act of 1971
As a result of this advocacy meeting, the Parliament Women Caucus had agreed on the following key issues, among many other resolutions reached
1. Although this agenda has been previously raised in the previous Parliamentary Sessions, Women MP's should ensure that the agenda is consistently and tirelessly raised until the amendment are done.
2. Women Caucus will form a special Task Force Team that will start lobbying for the amendment of the two sections and engage different parties before the next Budget Session
3. Apart from the actions to amend the Law, MPs should ensure they take this agenda to their respective constituencies and areas to put an end to child marriage
