Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
”I get goose bumps” Sida Director General Carin Jämtin exclaimed while listening to girls who have participated in Children Dignity Forum (CFD)’s TuWezeshe Fellowship programme. This leadership and mentorship training which aims to empower girls and young women is one of CDF’s most recent projects, and one of several that Jämtin got to see during her visit to CDF as part of her three-day visit to Tanzania.
The Sida-supported CDF promotes children’s rights. Apart from strengthening and facilitating human rights advocacy for children at risk or children who have been affected by for example child marriage, FGM and gender based violence, the organization creates a supportive environment and forum for child protection.
Other programs that presented their activities to Jämtin as well as other staff from Sida and the Swedish Embassy included an income generating girls activities group, a child rights and sexual reproductive health group and CDF-school clubs where children among other things learn about their rights. Staff from the Police Gender and Children’s District Desk also present and explained how they work with and are specialized on cases on for instance violence against women and children.
While there is still much to do in terms of children’s rights and gender equality, the visit showed how CDF works to advance and protect human rights – for and with children and young people!
