“In continuing ensure the dignity of our children and advocate to end harmful practices that contribute to violence against children – VAC such as FGM, child marriages & teen pregnancies it is our duty to ensure that we equip our children with the knowledge about their rights as well as the harmful practices and the consequences associated with FGM, child marriages and teen pregnancies so as they can be able to protect themselves.”- Amina Alliy Mtengeti – Assistant Child protection & Participation Officer at CDF.
It is in that regard that CDF under the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Tanzania are implementing a project that focuses on sensitizing the community to end child marriage, FGM, teen pregnancy and GBV in Kitunda ward. As part of implementing the activities of the project, CDF conducted outreach sessions on 9th and 11th August 2017 to the school clubs that were established in the 4 schools namely; Kitunda Primary, Kerezange Primary, Jitihada Primary and Kitunda Secondary schools with the aim of equipping the members with knowledge on issues around violence against children such as FGM, child marriage and teen pregnancies where by this knowledge was impacted to a total of 115 children of which 42 were boys and 73 were girls who are expected to use the knowledge to educate their peers both in their schools as well as their communities and that will increase the number of children that are aware of their rights and the harmful effects of FGM, child marriage and teen pregnancies.
