Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
In a bold move in ongoing efforts to end child marriage in Tanzania, Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network (TECMN), brought together Members of Parliament (MPs) under one roof to sensitize them on amending the Law of Marriage Act 1971 that allow girl child to be married off below age 18. Laws that set a minimum age of marriage are an important way to safeguard boys and girls from being married when they are not physically, psychologically or emotionally ready. There are different constraints and barriers that may prevent the effective implementation and enforcement of laws related to child marriage. Parliamentarians have a key role to play in breaking
down those barriers and providing solutions to ensure effective enforcement of laws. The meeting held on 25th of April, at Morena Hotel – Dodoma. The meeting showed a positive mood among MPs towards amending the law of marriage act.
