Ghana Ends Child Marriage
Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba today led a delegation to Dakar for the High Level Meeting on Ending Child Marriage in West and Central Africa . This meeting, is aimed at building a consensus on how to translate existing and future commitments into tangible, measurable actions aimed at ending child marriage in the region.
During a parallel session on the topic ‘Drawing key actions for addressing Child Marriage, the Hon. Minister highlighted some key actions governments can play to empower adolescent girls globally. She cited some examples of actions the government of Ghana has taken to ensure that girls are empowered to make well and informed choices.
As a best practice, she mentioned the Free SHS Policy rolled out this year which will in the long term address the educational needs of most adolescent girls who through lack of resources may miss out on secondary education.
