Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
The Minister of Health, Social Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ummy Master has said he supports the ruling in the High Court in Dar es Salaam to ban child marriage.
He said many stakeholders have been wondering why the government has decided to appeal the ruling on July 8, this year that the correct age for a person to marry is from 18 years.
Speaking at the launch of the second phase of the Girls’ Rights Protection Project under the Childhood Forum (CDF) with the Sisters Center, UMATI with comic relief and FORWARD UKThe teacher said when the government appealed, many people were wondering if the government might want to continue with the legal provisions that allow girls to marry under 18.
