At World Children's Day tomorrow we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Children's Rights Convention. At the The Hague University of Applied Sciences we celebrate this anniversary with a conference on Children's Rights: Current Challenges. Mathijs Euwema, child psychologist and director of ICDI (one of the Her Choice alliance members) will give a workshop on behalf of Her Choice and talk about the different ways in which child marriage is addressed in the Her Choice programme. He will especially delve deeper into the root causes of the problem, which are mostly socio-cultural. With the participants, he aims to discuss dilemmas and solutions.
Princess Laurentien van Oranje (Missing Chapter Foundation) opens the conference with a lecture about ‘children's voices’ and Prof. dr. Dr. Ton Liefaard (who holds the UNICEF chair in children's rights) holds a presentation entitled ‘How to Make Children's Rights Sustainable and Justice Accessible to all Children?’.
The conference is a joint initiative of the Center of Expertise Global & Inclusive Learning, the World Citizenship Research Group and the Faculty of Social Work and Education. #mustbeherchoice #endchildmarriage
