Tanzania Ending Child Marriage Network – TECMN
On Monday 5th of February 2018, TECMN conducted an advocacy meeting with Parliamentary Committee of Legal & Constitution Affair regarding role on amending Section 13 and 17 of the Law of Marriage Act of 1971 (LMA) as part of efforts to end child marriage in Tanzania.
The objectives of the meeting was to;
• Bring into attention on the persisting problem of child marriage (its drivers and consequences) by highlighting the gaps within the LMA 1971 and how those Sections contradicts with the Constitution, The Law of Child Act 2009 and other Regional and International Agreements aimed to protect children from all forms of violence and abuse as ratified by the government.
• Solicit for cooperation and support from the parliamentarians to champion the amendment of Section 13 and 17 of the Law of Marriage Act of 1971.
