At Rise Up! House, U.S. government aid through PEPFAR is supporting adolescent girls and young women who continue to have the highest rates of new HIV infections. Out of the 16,000 adolescent girls and young women in Chawama, 2,500 live with HIV. Over 1,500 females between the ages of 15-24 are enrolled in Rise Up! and now receive clinic and community-based services. Chawama hospital’s peer navigators and staff help participants learn ways to protect themselves from HIV, or to get on and stay on treatment. Youth friendly HIV services efficiently link girls and young women to HIV care, treatment, and psycho-social support. Rise Up! reduces the burden on the young girls’ access to clinical services by offering anti-retro-viral pickups six days a week.
