Ghana Ends Child Marriage
The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has marked its Family Week Celebration across the country. The occasion, considered as a very important event on Church’s Calendar affords congregants and families the opportunity to come together and talk about critical issues necessary for the development of families, society and the nation.
As part of this years’ celebrations the Apenkwa district of the church held a forum to discuss issues of child protection with specific focus on child marriage, its effects and the role the church and other religious bodies can play in curbing the menace. Present to throw more light on the issue was Miss Victoria Quaynor, a child rights activist and a member of the Ending Child Marriage Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection.
The forum served as an opportunity for congregants to have open and frank discussions about the drivers of child marriage in our communities and offered some solutions on how best to end the practices.
Educational Materials on Child Marriage as well as copies of the National Strategic Framework on Ending Child Marriage was given to the Church. The Head Pastor, Rev..Samuel Ado Adjah affirmed the commitment of the church to help the Ministry of Gender and all other bodies to curb child rights violations especially child marriage across the country.
