According to the Gender Gap index, Lebanon ranks third to last in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with only Syria and Yemen ranking lower. The country’s legal structure places women as second-class citizens, treating them as minors in decisions related to governing their own lives.
Over the last year, ACTED has worked with a number of Social Development Centres (SDCs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Lebanon to help some of the most vulnerable female refugees and host community members to develop work and life skills.
A total of 1,300 hours of technical vocational training and 390 hours of life skills training were provided to the beneficiaries in 13 geographical locations, followed by career counselling and job matching exercise that resulted in 29% of the trained beneficiaries to access internships or employment and 44.3% of the trained beneficiaries to improve their income.
The efforts of the initiative also included street-level awareness raising which focused on ending child marriage in Lebanon.
This project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Lebanon with funding from the European Regional Development and Protection Programme.
